Waking Up: Does Craving Cupcakes at 3 a.m. Count?

So what’s this “waking up” thing all about? To me, it’s kind of like when you wake up at 3 a.m. feeling inexplicably hungry, and all you want is to eat a big bowl of pasta or better yet, a chocolate cupcake with cream cheese icing. Something satisfying. Something sweet. Or like when your alarm goes off, and you just don’t feel ready to start the day…but it beckons you nonetheless.

I think part of us is never quite ready to wake up – to shift out of our sleepy, habitual patterns and open our eyes to something more real, something more alive. But, it too beckons us. We crave a life that is truly satisfying, filled with sweetness.

I've found that waking up involves 3 states. Clear, Connect and Co-Create:

1.    CLEARING the blocks and self-sabotage that keep us stuck.
2.    CONNECTING with a higher Intelligence within us and around us.
3.    CO-CREATING with this Intelligence consciously instead of unconsciously.

Sounds simple, right? I bet you’re thinking, “Sure, I can co-create with the Universe, no problem.”

In fact, you are co-creating with the Universe right now. And now. And now. It’s a constant interactive dance. But the problem is that most of the time, we’re not aware of what it is we’re actually creating. Why? Because 95% of our actions and behaviors are directed by the subconscious mind. Kinda scary.

The good news is, we can CLEAR the automatic pilot program and install a better one. We can learn to CONNECT more deeply with ourselves, others and yes, the Universe (or whatever you want to call it), making it much easier to access and contribute our unique dance moves. And, we can CO-CREATE our life from a place of conscious choice and maybe even from ease. Wouldn't that be nice?

The thing is, it’s not a linear process. I see it more as a spiral. We spiral through these 3 states as we move forward. It’s continuous learning. A constant expansion. One day we might be feeling like “I've got this” and the next day, bam, “I don’t got this.” But have no fear. That just means there’s something to clear – some limiting thought or belief that wants to come up and out so that you can go even farther without it, and the only way to get your attention is to throw you a curve ball (or 10).

In my next post, I’ll share more about how the subconscious mind works, and ways we can help it work for us instead of against us.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear what waking up means to you. Leave a comment!
